So It’s Come to This: A Senator Meow Clip Show
I’m sorry. This is all absurd on a number of levels, not only that people might be so interested in picking through my brain garbage as to read something not unlike a church bulletin about my discarded thoughts, but also the total collapsing of a social media ecosystem that has enabled and encouraged it. So, rather than try to convince people that it’s totally worth signing up for seventeen different potential apps and replacements, I’m going to do the legwork—at least in relation to my own stuff, in as much as it’s my stuff—and curate a sampling of what you’re missing out on at places like Twitter, Mastodon, Instagram, Letterboxd, and a number of other spots that I don’t even know how to link here. A weekly digest of sorts. Who knows? Maybe a work that helps me review my thoughts will make me more productive, or maybe it’ll convince me to stop having thoughts altogether. I’m easy. I’ll take either.
The Brain Dump
This is where I’ll put things like tweets and toots and whatever the devil other euphemism some techbro decides to use. You know, important ideas like:
Abbott Elementary is the funniest show on TV not about vampires
cracked my wrist stirring gravy. applying for workman's comp
brutus buckeye has been found dead in ❌ia❌i
the last time Michigan beat OSU in Columbus, 9/11 happened before the next game, so... be ready for anything
i think a good nickname for Raleigh, North Carolina, would be "the jolly city" but they could spell it "jaleigh" and put Jaleigh Raleigh on their travel brochures
At the Movies
It shouldn’t surprise anyone reading this that I watch a lot of movies, so how about I list off… three? Sure, three. Up to three. So, how about I list off up to three movies that I think might be worth checking out that I’ve watched recently, movies like:
Mean Streets (1973), dir. Martin Scorsese ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ❤️
it’s about family
Grumpy Old Men (1993), dir. Donald Petrie ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ❤️
it was unwise to allow me unfettered access to this VHS tape
Matthau taking like thirty seconds to tell the nurse he's Lemmon's "friend" so he can visit him in the hospital and say Merry Christmas but cannot help but call him a putz while he's laid out on the bed recovering from a heart attack... unrelatable, to me
also Burgess Meredith with some all-timers, and Ann-Margret awooga
Skinamarink (2022), dir. Kyle Edward Ball ⭐⭐⭐⭐
90s-core post-Lynch backrooms "analog" nightmare
one thing it does well is capture the feeling of wandering around a house at night as a kid
one thing it does poorly is pop tension with piercing sounds instead of letting it just continue to simmer
if the bedroom sequence were a short film, it would be five stars
also the film was hurt slightly for using Bimbo's Initiation (1931) twice, each time pulling me out of the moment to think "hey, Bimbo's Initiation" but that's for me to sort out
Wow, with insights like that, it’s a wonder that The Dispatch hasn’t picked me up yet, or at least Columbus Underground.
One Picture
Listen, I don’t take a lot of pictures, and most of the pictures I share are expressly not worth looking at in the first place, but people seem to like them, so I’ll share out one that I’ve shared lately. Don’t expect any context or explanation for anything. This is where stuff from Insta will end up getting dumped, down where no one is reading anymore.
