From the Desk of…
We’re so close, I can taste it. I just want it to be like… I’ll take mid-60s on average at this point. I was busy watching movies this weekend, so I didn’t have my eyes on the news as much (thankfully, frankly). One big-ticket “direct impact on your life” item is that there could be an August special election to raise the constitutional amendment threshold to 60%. It’s very important the Republicans do this ahead of November, you see, because they’re scared that the amendment to enshrine abortion rights in our state constitution will pass. It’s not enough for these ghouls with their supermajority trifecta to enrich themselves at the expense of the taxpayers and their constituents; no, they need more power to ensure there’s no way that their wills can be subverted. Why, they won’t even entertain the idea of repealing a bill that was passed through brute force and bribery! They certainly can’t have an idea like “democracy” floating around out there.
Unrelatedly, the country of France is on fire following ongoing mass protests and strikes after President Macron raised the retirement age through executive fiat. I’m not saying to hand it to PCF, but maybe the communists had some kind of notion when pointing out that the De Gaulle constitution gave the president a bit too much power. We don’t need to rehash the forming of the Fifth Republic here though.
Also, The Dube is coming back. If you can imagine it, it exists somewhere.

Hmm. People seem to like it when I think about The X-Files. I might have to investigate that more. Oh, yeah, and that whole Trump arrest thing was a bust. Oh well.
At the Movies
Watched a lot of Wilder this weekend. Some of it was even new to me!
Witness for the Prosecution (1957), dir. Billy Wilder ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ❤️
me when Charles Laughton is playing a self-described ill-tempered mean old man who is bewilderingly beloved by his colleagues: "haha, I do that"
tbh this was at 4 stars until like the last ten minutes which had me pogging
Double Indemnity (1944), dir. Billy Wilder ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ❤️
me, my life already a shambles of things I have not been able to fix, watching Barbara Stanwyck orchestrate several murders: "i could fix her"
need to pull up that MacMurray saying "baby" supercut again
Cronos (1993), dir. Guillermo del Toro ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I think I could let the bug suck me off and be fine
