Turn the heat back on. Too cold to type, or really even to think. It’s May, for Pete’s sake. The roads seem like they’re getting worse and worse. I don’t know if it’s just pandemic stresses on the brain or symptoms of Long COVID or people just behaving selfishly or a massive influx of population density or some combination of factors, but it just seems like every day there’s a story about bikers getting hit by cars going the wrong way or shootings on the interstate or children being killed while walking on the sidewalk. Meanwhile, you’ve got people going Bernie Goetz in the subway and choking people to death to the sound of widespread praise and reputation-washing in the papers of record. Plus ça change, n’est pas? Story after story of erratic and paranoid gun owners opening fire for “reasons” like “pulling into a driveway” and “going to the wrong address.” You’ve got TV weathermen threatening to shoot children for ringing a doorbell. They’re living their Charlie Bronson Death Wish fantasies, and they’re killing folks to do it. Meanwhile, we’ve got Nazis protesting in town and milquetoast responses from mealymouthed officials. Newsflash, Andy! They don’t have to be “out-of-state” to be Nazis! We’ve got plenty of homegrown Nazis right here!
At least someone is having a good time at the orchestra these days.

"If I get shot, they can't shoot the union out of me."
Almost forgot that a dude accused a number of statehouse reps of being influenced by demons and other ungodly forces this week. And not like, in the cool “ye cannot serve God and Mammon” way but in the stupid Evangelical way that justifies their hate.
At the Movies
Some cool stuff on screens this month!
Evil Dead Rise (2023), dir. Lee Cronin ⭐⭐⭐⭐
A movie that knows when to shut up and play the hits.
Can't wait to see some TERF have the worst bad faith reading of the brother finding the book.
Harlan County U.S.A. (1976), dir. Barbara Kopple ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ❤️
The first time I saw this and Florence Reece showed up, my jaw dropped. Turns out every time I watch it and she shows up, my jaw drops.
Up the workers, the union forever, you have nothing to lose but your chains.
The Wicker Man (1973), dir. Robin Hardy ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ❤️
Every year I watch this and think the same thing, "how do I get Lord Summerisle's hair for myself?"
I will be pre-ordering the 4K UHD box set that's coming in September as soon as they drop the link for it. It will probably be hundred of dollars, but I am going to do it.
Someday, I'm going to have a proper Wicker Man party for May Day, and it will be a hell of a good time.
Well, for most guests at least.
Forgot to do a long review this week. Oh well.

Don’t pack away the blankets too soon.
