From the Desk of…
I’m still on that Hyrule grindset. I don’t even think I’m halfway done with the game. That’s a lie. I’m probably like 55% done with it. There’s so much screwing around and little hits of progress to make though. And such wonderful costumes! You can dress your little guy up in all sorts of ways and do all sorts of bits. Anyway, that’s enough links. Oh, I’d almost completely purged this bizarre hagiography of Pete Buttigieg from my memory. Need to clean out the apse of my cathedral mind, apparently. More and more content is disappearing from streaming services as HBO Max becomes Max and Netflix, at long last, starts cracking down on the password sharing. Really makes me reconsider the value proposition of these services! Starting to think these large corporations don’t have ideas like “art” and “history” at their hearts. Mayor Andy Ginther, having no better ideas than to crib something from Denver, ordered food trucks to close early and turned the city’s arts district into what one friend called a “militarized occupied zone” in an effort to tamp down the recent string of shootings. Of course, we still don’t know how many of the injuries that weekend were caused by the cops themselves, but that’s BCI’s business to sort out. I’m sure the city will latch onto any potential positive correlation to say that their plan worked, but I’d love to see the traffic numbers off geofenced data to see how much activity has dropped. Maybe I’m wrong! Maybe folks are staying in droves.
Anyway, be ready to fight our new bathroom bill. Ohio, The Heart of it All!
The Brain Dump
one of the most powerful acting moves is the squint
I feel off. Maybe I'm dying

alright. had the boys down in the Meow Institute skunkworks prototype an idea for me. who wants to help me cart this to City Council for the demo
wow. can't believe the writer's strike has the networks so desperate that they just tried to option my spec script for a sitcoms that's like Charles in Charge meets Theodore Rex called "Uncle Dunkleosteus"
Ah, so there was last week’s typo. I knew in my rush I had to have made at least one. Oh well.
At the Movies
One of the lightest movie-watching weeks I’ve had in some time due to increased Night Gallery consumption and also Zelda. I’ll fix it.
The Wages of Fear (1953), dir. Henri-Georges Clouzot ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
if i were in the jungle i think i could drive the truck. rip to these guys but i'm different
Porky’s (1981), dir. Bob Clark ⭐⭐⭐⭐
You know what? That aged way better than I was expecting. It's certainly better than, say, Revenge of the Nerds... frankly, it may have aged better than even something like The Hangover. I think that's in part because it's Bob Clark looking backwards, and it's a similar talent to the one he displays in A Christmas Story. It's a period piece, and it feels authentic in a way that Grease - or American Graffiti, even - doesn't. I appreciate getting unvarnished nostalgia that doesn't glorify the past, and this shows something that just feels more real - warts and all.
Escape from New York (1981), dir. John Carpenter ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ❤️
This was the first John Carpenter movie I owned on DVD.
I'm gonna remake this but it's about Andy Ginther getting stuck in the Short North one weekend.
Big holiday weekend for movie folks! Lots of cool stuff to check out when I’m not playing video games.
