From the Desk of…
I’ll be brief because the Benadryl seems to be kicking in. Still not quite sure what’s triggered what seems like an allergic response, but that’s life. Still not quite sure that’s what I’m having, since I’ve never had one before, but that’s life too.
I mean, the big news is the speaker race, right? Scalise withdrew, and Jordan wants it. He just doesn’t have the votes because he’s bad at his job and also as a person. We’ll see how it plays out. Heck, maybe that’s why I’ve got hives. Are these hives? I don’t know. It’ll probably be him, and I’ll probably have to take a day to orally evacuate all my stomach contents. Stomach if we’re lucky.
But hey, while I have concerns about the skews of the sample population, this poll doesn’t look so bad for Issues 1 and 2 and also is pretty rosy for Sherrod Brown (PDF warning, enjoy the crosstabs). 58-34 is a pretty good look for the issues. Really makes you think about that urgent need for a 60% threshold in the August special election. Some… interesting tracking action year-over-year on the issues though.
Good God, they will never stop the construction. All night and day with this pounding. Anyway, did I have a thought this week?
The Brain Dump

I'm built different (a constellation of flaws and errors many of which were heretofore unknown to science)
Cannot think clearly. These antihistamines are no joke! I am way less itchy now though.
At the Movies
I can’t believe I watched that much Tod Browning this weekend (yes, I can).
Scream VI (2023), dirs. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is the least Scream-y Scream that ever Screamed... but I kinda liked it? Dermot Mulroney does a great George C. Scott here
Freaks (1932), dir. Tod Browning ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ❤️
Wow, I've not logged this on here? Heartrending film.
Lone Star (1996), dir. John Sayles ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ❤️
thinking about making a pre-order. see it's a really good neowestern. but it's also about fathers. in a big way. great Joe Morton. the scene with the parents complaining about teaching history is too real. Elizabeth Peña call me
Huh, there were several errors in the reviews last week. Neat.
One Picture
I can’t stop thinking about this.
In closing,
Within the past week, I have received no fewer than two death notices for people I know. In both cases, they were young, vibrant, and whipcrack smart. If you knew Justin Davisson, there’s a gathering upstairs at Ace of Cups this Sunday from 3-6. I’ll leave you with a song that Justin and I once talked about at Ace of Cups. Despite The Evolution Control Committee being a Columbus project, I’ve only ever met one dude familiar enough to have physical copies of their stuff, and that’s not even touching on his genre film historical knowledge or the near-encyclopedic compendium of amateur and professional wrestling history he carried around in his head. Inasmuch as I knew him, he was goodhearted and kind. What more can be asked of us?
Until next time, just try to give someone flowers while you can.
